INTRODUCTION
The fashion world is enormous, full of change and constant growth. I have always had a fascination with fashion and trends. I think its amazing how fashion designers explore and open their minds to create something out of nothing. They are able to look at the world from a different perspective. The way they relate their designs and aesthetic to the zeitgeist really makes sense after you learn about it. I know now why the history of fashion is important in order to understand and further my future career in this business.
Fashion became part of my life ever since the day I was born. It becomes a part of every individual weather they like it or not. Clothing is not only a form of expression, but it is a necessary thing in life. Just by simply going to the store and picking out a sweater, you are already being part of fashion. It is something we as individuals use to communicate and express ourselves.
Learning about these designers was not only knoweldgable but inspirational as well. The stories these designers have, the work they put to be recognized as they are today is very admirable. Now I know how it al began and how fashion has evolved through time. Every era consist of a new and different element. Some designers are like architects, others like painters, but they all are very unique in their own way. After all, their work represents their unique aesthetic and influences. Learning about fashion helps me understand it better and reminds me why I fell in love with it in the first place.
I have selected five designers to include in my Designer Project. I decided to choose these five designers all from different era’s in the 20th century. The first designer I chose is Pierre Balmain from the World War II era in the 1940’s. The second designer I chose for my project is Salvatore Ferragamo, who was around during The Cold War in the 1950’s. Marc Jacobs, who was during the MTV era in the 1980’s, is another designer I chose. I also chose Christian Louboutin, which is my favorite designer. My last and final designer is Alexander McQueen who is from the 21st Century.
